KNOW MORE ABOUT CORONA VIRUS

What Is Corona Virus?

Coronaviruses are a family of deadly viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). The name coronavirus comes from the Latin word crown or halo. Under a microscope, the virus looks like it is surrounded by a corona.

How Does The Coronavirus Spread?

It can spread through droplets generated when one coughs or sneezes, saliva or discharge from the nose. It can also spread by getting in touch with affected individuals or by touching surfaces that are contaminated by the virus.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE SYMPTOMS OF THE CORONAVIRUS?

  • High temperature
  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough that continues for a long time or recurs
  • Dry cough
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Runny nose or diarrhoea

However, infected persons can also be asymptomatic despite having the virus in their bodies.

How Is Corona Virus Treated?

Currently there is no specific treatment of the virus although many symptoms can be treated.

You can protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you do the following:

  • wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub;
  • cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze;
  • avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell; and
  • stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell

Don’t:

Touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean.
